How Many Pizzas Do You Need for a Party? A Simple Guide for 10, 25, 50 and 100 Guests
By Katie, Three Sisters Party Co. ·
Quick Answer
If pizza is the main meal, a good starting point is about three slices per adult and two slices per younger child. If your large pizzas are cut into eight slices, that usually means one large pizza for every two to three people.

That is only a starting point.
Teenagers can eat more. Young kids often eat less. Wings, salad, fruit, chips and cake can reduce how much pizza everyone eats. A party that runs through dinner will usually need more than a short afternoon birthday party.
The easiest way to get the right amount is to think about your guests first, then do the math.
1. Start With the Slice Count
The biggest mistake when ordering pizza for a group is assuming every large pizza is the same.
It is not.
One pizzeria may cut a large pizza into eight slices. Another may cut it into ten or twelve. Some local shops offer very large pies with bigger slices.
Before you place a big order, ask how many slices come in the size you are buying.
Once you know that number, the math is simple. Start with about three slices per adult and two slices per younger child, then adjust based on who is coming and what else you are serving.
You do not need a complicated pizza party calculator. You just need a realistic guest count and the slice count from your pizza shop.
2. How Many Pizzas for 10 or 20 People?
For 10 adults, about four large pizzas is a comfortable starting point if each pizza has eight slices.
If the group includes several young children, three pizzas may be enough, especially if you are also serving snacks and cake.
For 20 adults, I would start around eight large pizzas when pizza is the main meal. That gives you 64 slices.
For a kids birthday party with 20 younger children, five or six pizzas may be plenty. Kids often grab a slice, take a few bites and decide that playing is more important than eating.
Teenagers are different. For a group of 20 teenagers, especially after sports or another active event, I would stay with eight pizzas and consider an extra one if pizza is the only real meal.
Leftover pizza is easy to deal with. Running out is not.
3. How Many Pizzas for 25 or 30 People?
For 25 mostly adult guests, about 10 large pizzas is a simple number to work with.
Ten pizzas cut into eight slices gives you 80 slices. That leaves enough for around three slices per person with a little extra.
If your crowd is a mix of adults and children, you can probably reduce that slightly.
For example, if you have 15 kids and 10 adults, eight or nine pizzas may be enough, especially when cake and snacks are part of the party.
For 30 adults, about 12 large pizzas is a good starting point when pizza is the main meal.
This is also the point where I would call the pizza shop ahead instead of waiting until the party is already happening. Twelve pizzas is a much different order than two or three.
Also think about where the boxes are going when they arrive. A dozen pizza boxes can take over an entire kitchen counter quickly. Having one table ready for food makes a large order easier to manage.
4. How Many Pizzas for 50 People?
For 50 mostly adult guests, I would start around 19 large pizzas if pizza is the primary meal and your pizzas have eight slices each.
You may not need 19 if pizza is just one part of a larger menu.
If you are also serving wings, pasta, salad, fruit and appetizers, 16 or 17 pizzas may be enough.
If the party is full of teenagers and pizza is basically the entire dinner, I would not be afraid to go above 19.
At this size, think about how the pizza will be served too.
Open several boxes at a time. Keep the most popular choices easy to reach. Put plates and napkins at the beginning of the food area. Save extra pizzas for later instead of opening everything immediately.
That keeps the table from becoming overwhelming and gives you something fresh to put out once the first wave is gone.
5. How Many Pizzas for 75 or 100 People?
For 75 adults, the basic three slice calculation comes out to a little more than 28 large pizzas with eight slices each. I would round that to about 29.
For 100 adults, the same starting point comes to about 38 large pizzas.
Before you order that many boxes, look at your event.
A graduation party with 75 people coming and going over four hours is very different from a team dinner where everyone sits down and eats at once.
If pizza is one part of a larger menu, you may need fewer. If pizza is the entire dinner, those higher numbers may be reasonable.
At this size, logistics matter just as much as quantity. Can one shop prepare the entire order at the time you need it? Can you transport or receive that many pizzas while keeping them warm? Do you have enough table space to serve them?
For a very large order, call your chosen pizzeria ahead of time and ask what they recommend.
6. Count Kids, Adults and Teenagers Differently
A five year old and a 35 year old probably are not eating the same amount of pizza.
For younger children, I start around two slices each. For adults, I use about three. For teenagers, I often plan closer to three or four, especially if they are active or pizza is the only main food.
You can do the math separately.
If you have 10 adults and 15 kids, estimate 30 adult slices and 30 kid slices. That gives you 60 slices total.
If each large pizza has eight slices, you need 7.5 pizzas, so round up to eight.
That is much more useful than treating all 25 guests exactly the same.
7. What If You Are Serving Other Food?
Pizza does not have to carry the entire meal.
If you are also putting out filling sides, people will usually eat less pizza.
Wings make a difference. So do pasta dishes, subs, substantial salads and heavy appetizers.
Chips and a vegetable tray help, but I would not reduce the pizza order dramatically just because you have light snacks on the table.
Ask yourself whether the other food could realistically replace a slice or two of pizza for a guest. If the answer is yes, you can lower your estimate.
Dessert matters too, especially at kids parties. If you have cake, cupcakes, popcorn or another treat coming soon after lunch, younger guests may not eat as much pizza as you expect.
8. What Toppings Should You Order?
You do not need a dozen different combinations just because you are feeding a crowd.
Keep it simple.
Cheese is almost always useful, especially when kids are attending. Pepperoni is another safe choice for many groups.
Then add a smaller number of specialty pizzas based on what your guests like.
I would rather have enough familiar pizza than end up with untouched boxes because the topping combinations were too specific.
If anyone attending has allergies or dietary restrictions, speak directly with the pizza shop about ingredients, preparation and cross contact.
9. Plan the Order Before Party Day
If you need 10, 20 or 30 pizzas ready at a specific time on a busy weekend, call ahead and ask how much notice the restaurant prefers.
Also decide whether delivery or pickup creates less work for you. Delivery saves the drive, while pickup gives you more control over timing. For a very large order, either option can become its own little project.
Pizza is popular for a reason. It is easy to serve, familiar to most guests and requires very little cleanup compared with cooking a full meal. That makes it especially useful for birthdays, team dinners, backyard games and outdoor movie nights.
The easier the food is, the more time you have to actually enjoy the party.

A Final Thought
Pizza is supposed to make feeding a party easier.
Do not turn it into another thing to stress over.
Count your adults, children and teenagers. Find out how many slices come with the pizza size you are ordering. Start with about three slices for adults and two for younger kids, then adjust based on your menu and your crowd.
If you are serving plenty of other food, pull the number down a little. If you are feeding 30 hungry teenagers after a soccer game, go the other direction.
No calculator knows your guests as well as you do.
